Indiana County Sheriffs are warning people that a phone scam is making the rounds in the county and is using their name as part of the scam.
In an announcement made on their Facebook page, the Sheriff’s office said that they received multiple phone calls from individuals saying they were being called by scammers. The scammers say they are a deputy with the sheriff’s office and they had a warrant out for their arrest. The scammer then asks for various amounts of money and for an account number, which would be used to mark the warrant as paid.
The sheriff’s office reminds everyone that at no time would anyone be contacted and told to pay money over the phone or directly to an individual outside of the courthouse to vacate a warrant. If you have any questions or feel like you’ve received one of these calls, contact a law enforcement agency before providing any information.
