While attendees were practicing social distancing and wearing face masks, IUP continued their tradition of remembering the events of September 11th, 2001 today with a ceremony in front of the IUP 9/11 memorial in the Oak Grove.
The emcee for the ceremony was U.S. Army Lt. Col. Dennis Faulkner, chair of IUP’s department of Military Science, who said that by the fact that ceremonies were being attended that a solemn promise to never forget what happened that day was being kept.
The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Nadene L’Amoreaux, a professor in the department of counseling. She recounted her own personal story and said that she will always remember being with her then seven-month old daughter while watching the events unfold that day.
IUP President Michael Driscoll highlighted why it was important for the day to be remembered.
The ceremony also paid tribute to IUP alumni William Moskal, Donald Jones and William Sugra, who were killed in the attack on the World Trade Center.
