Kutztown University yesterday reported twenty new positive coronavirus cases, and blamed them on “social gatherings” by students. The university promptly suspended all athletic-related activities and said it is “considering additional policies and protocols to curb further spread.”
Athletes at Kutztown had been expected to have limited in-person activities with coaches starting next Tuesday, but the suspension is “until further notice”, according to Matt Santos, the school’s vice president of university relations and athletics. Athletes may not participate in strength or conditioning workouts, and may only meet their coaches for academic reasons.
The Kutztown website reports that 14 of the 20 new cases involve students living off-campus. One employee has also tested positive.
At IUP, there have been no new coronavirus issues reported since Monday’s weekly report.
