An IUP history professor received a grant to lead a team of faculty members in offering an initiative designed to integrate liberal arts into student career preparation.
Distinguished professor Dr. Lynn Bothelo is the first IUP faculty member to be awarded a grant from the Teagle Foundation, worth $25,000, to lead the “Big Ideas: The Humanities and Professions Program” which will teach students how to gain a competitive edge in the workplace. This program works by giving students, who complete a three-year program, a certificate in humanities exclusively designed for pre-professional Science, Technology, Engineering and Math students.
Big Idea is open to all students and provides a road map to navigate their liberal studies paths, according to a press release from IUP. During the second and third years, students that are a part of the program will take three additional humanities courses that reflect their career interests and during their senior year, will combine their pre-professional track and humanities knowledge into a final capstone project.
