Pet owners across the state are reminded to save their pet food lot numbers.
A lot number or lot code is used as a way by pet food producers to track packages of food, and can mostly be found by the “Best by:” or expiration date.
In a press release, the PA Department of Agriculture said the reason to save lot numbers would be for if food were to be recalled at any point. The department said the lot numbers help identify the product for recall or for reporting a potential problem with food or treats to the Food and Drug Administration or the producers.
Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding tells pet owners it only takes a minute to save the lot code on the back of food packaging when you get home, and that only feeding your pets appropriate food designated for its age, species and health conditions can save you and your pet problems down the road.
