The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture announced that relief funds are still available for area dairy farms affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following a visit to the Scattered Acres Dairy Farm in Reading yesterday, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding revealed that nearly $13.5 million was still available for dairy farmers to claim in direct relief payments.
These funds were part of the $15 million CARES Act-funded Dairy Indemnity Program, and Redding says that farmers can “apply today and receive $1,500. It’s that easy.” This assistance is available for any dairy farm that experienced financial loss from discarded or displaced milk during the pandemic.
Any farms that did not experience financial loss from discarded milk, but experienced COVID-19-related fees that were assessed on their milk checks are also eligible.
Out of nearly 7,000 dairy farms across PA., only 900 farms have applied for relief assistance, leaving ninety percent of funds available.
The deadline to apply for this assistance program is September 30, and a link to the application can be found here.
