IUP kicked off the 2020-21 academic year with their annual opening speeches from university officials.
The presentation took place at Fisher Auditorium, but was held without an audience and streamed on the university’s website due to regulations concerning indoor gatherings. During his speech, David Piper, who represents the University Senate called the combination of the Covid-19 Outbreak and the State System of Higher Education redesign has made things very confusing and stressful.
During his speech, Driscoll addressed concerns that have been raised due to the protests against racism, reiterating that racism has no place at IUP. To help out in the effort to take racism off campus, Driscoll said he is planning on touring the campus with minority students.
Driscoll also mentioned that students who may need additional financial help will be able to get it through $3 million that will be distributed to students as a one-time $300 grant.
