The Indiana County courts will be busy today with many DUI Criminal Call cases, but there will be two plea court hearings today.
One of the plea hearings will be for 27-year-old Jerry Robert Pierce III of Curwensville, who will enter a plea today connected with a case that dates back to November 22nd of 2019. On that day, police say that they tried to pull Pierce over as he drove through Indiana Borough, but he took off. He finally gave up the chase and stopped in White Township.
Troopers say Pierce was driving under a suspended license at the time and troopers believed that he was driving under the influence of marijuana as well. He was subsequently taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center, where he consented to a blood draw.
In the car with Pierce was a 24-year-old woman and two children, ages three years and three months. No one was hurt in the incident.
On top of two counts of felony endangering the welfare of a child, DUI-first offense and DUI-controlled substance, he also faces 10 summary traffic charges.
The other case involves DUI and a crash as well that happened on December 20th of 2019. State police said they were called out to a crash scene at 10 PM at 151 Jones Street and found the driver, 55-year old Nancy Penrose of Robinson. They discovered she was under the influence of alcohol. When officers approached her, she started to drive away, causing the pursuit. The chase ended when police put out some spike strips.
Penrose faces a charge of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, two misdemeanor DUI charges, a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, and several summary traffic violations.
