Finding actual baseball to follow hasn’t been easy this year, with the delayed start of the MLB season and no minor league baseball either.
There’s a local outlet, though, for some Indiana County baseball players. Johnstown’s AAABA tournament was canceled this year but the five teams in the local league did play a schedule, and their best-of-five championship starts tonight.
Laurel Auto Group beat Martell’s Pharmacy in extra innings to win their semifinal series last night, earning a trip to the championship series, where they will play Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors. The Carpenter squad is managed by Indiana’s Cole Shaffer and features the league’s Pitcher of the Year, Homer-Center graduate and IUP recruit Nate Davis.
Other Indiana County players we know of in the league are Homer-Center grads Corey Cavalier and Jayke Saiani, and Blairsville’s Ryan Shirley.
