Plans for an in-person graduation ceremony for IUP in September have been changed due to Coronavirus.
IUP’s in-person commencement for the spring and summer semester was initially postponed to September 12th due to the Coronavirus outbreak, in the hope that at that time, the ceremonies would be held safely. In an announcement sent to IUP employees and May and August 2020 graduates, university president Michael Driscoll announced that due to more restrictive guidelines for large indoor gatherings and concern over transmission of Coronavirus, they have shifted the September 12th ceremony to a virtual format.
Virtual ceremonies are set to be posted to IUP’s website at 9:00 AM on September 12th, and Driscoll said that it will include many of the traditional elements of an on-campus in-person ceremony, including the reading of the graduates’ names. In an effort to help with the ceremony, IUP is asking graduates to send photos of themselves so that it can be shown as their name is read. Graduates will be sent a diploma cover and a printed program. The registrar’s office will send more information on the virtual ceremony next week to the graduates.
Earlier this year, IUP made a virtual tribute to the class of 2020, which is still available to view on their website.
