Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down in the month of June .
The PA Department of Labor and Industry reported that the county’s unemployment rate in June went down 1.5 percentage points to 11.6 percent for the month. This continues a trend that goes back to when the unemployment rate was at its highest during the Coronavirus pandemic, which was in April. The rate was at 15.9 percent.
The statewide unemployment rate went down in June by four tenths of a percentage point to 13 percent, and the national unemployment rate went down 2.2 percentage points to 11.1 percent.
Indiana County’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the region. Among the neighboring counties, Jefferson and Clearfield Counties has a rate of 11.8 percent, Westmoreland County is at 12 percent unemployment, Cambria County’s unemployment rate is 12.3 percent and Armstrong County is at 12.4 percent.
Total non-farm jobs in the area went up by 1.4 percent in the month to 28,800 jobs in June. Indiana County saw a decline in the government super sector of 1000 jobs, but that was due to summer break at IUP. All other super sectors remained unchanged from May.
