State police have identified the victim of a Friday morning fatal motorcycle crash outside of Blairsville.
Police say a speeding motorcycle operated by 22-year-old Christian Shugars of Blairsville went out of control on a curve on Pizza Barn Road in Derry Township, sliding on some gravel and crashing into a utility pole. Shugars was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was pronounced dead from blunt force injuries to the head and trunk. He had not been wearing a helmet.
A Monroeville man died Friday when his vintage car rolled over multiple times at the Keystone Raceway in Derry Township. 69-year-old James Baker lost control of his 1936 Ford Roadster as he drove on the drag track, hitting a guide rail and a light pole. Baker was wearing a helmet and a harness, and the vehicle was equipped with roll bars. He was pronounced dead at Excela Latrobe Hospital.
No one was injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Route 217 in Derry Township. State police say it happened near Chestnut Ridge Road when a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Amber Hill of Derry failed to stop for traffic in front of it and ran into the rear of the vehicle of 83-year-old Anthony Zappa of Blairsville.
