At their regular meeting Wednesday night, the White Township Supervisors heard from a representative from Appalachian Forest Consultants about plans to remove invasive plant species in White’s Woods.
Michael Wolf from Appalachian Forest Consultants reiterated his statement that the ground in White’s Woods is in bad shape because of the invasive species, and there is no chance for seeds from the over story trees to grow. Wolf called the plan to till six inches into the ground foolish as it could damage the roots of the healthy trees in the forest.
Wolf said that in his opinion, the best thing to do would be to go in with herbicides and take all safety precautions, and try to keep the deer from eating the healthy seeds that fall from the trees and any healthy growth.
After the presentation, Supervisor Rich Gallo asked the board to take its time moving forward and consider establishing a committee that would be made up of concerned citizens of White’s Woods, some township supervisors and others to discuss the plan further.
In other business, the township supervisors will have a public hearing concerning a liquor license transfer prior to the Township Supervisors meeting on August 26th.
