It’s been quite the challenge, but repairs to the Hoodlebug Trail will finally get underway next week in White and Center townships.
Indiana County Parks & Trails has announced that work will begin on Monday on a seven-mile stretch of the trail beginning at the Divine Destiny Church in White Township and extending to Lee Bottom Road south of Coral.
Quaker Sales will perform seal coating on the surface of the trail. It should take about three weeks to complete and there will be restrictions on public access to portions of the trail work area during the project.
Indiana County began what should have been a simple process of repairing the trail years ago, but PennDOT delayed approval of a grant to fund the work until 2017. The county formally accepted the $310,495 grant in May of last year, but then the project got caught in PennDOT’s bureaucracy and was subjected to review by both that agency and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission.
The 10.5 mile Hoodlebug Trail opened in 2000 and the section that will be refurbished has not had any repairs since then.
