One of the consequences of the heat wave has been the fact that the ground has dried up to the point where it could be hazardous for fire.
The weather station at the Pennsylvania American Water Company’s Twolick Filter Plant as of yesterday recorded only half an inch of rain since the start of the month, and several lawns have started to turn brown as the ground has dried up. That has prompted Homer City Borough and the Central Indiana County Water Authority to put a burning ban in effect immediately until the next Homer City Borough Council meeting, which is set for August 4th, but officials with the borough say the ban could be lifted if we see a significant amount of rainfall.
The burn ban is in effect for trash and brush fires. Attended campfires and outdoor cooking are still permitted under the ban.
