The suspect in a Walmart swap-and-swipe theft reported this week is the same man accused in the 2018 death of a woman in a fiery crash at Pikels Top Tier Fuels in Home.
State police identified the two men that were involved in a theft on June 20th at the Walmart store as 35-year-old James Brown of Punxsutawney and his 40-year-old brother, Anthony Brown of Home. Police say that James stole an ink cartridge valued at $122.93 and the two returned it two days later in order to get a gift card. Two days earlier, James went to Walmart and took price tags off of packages of noodles and placed them on combination ink cartridge packages worth $347.91 and rang them up.
James Brown is also facing charges connected with the fatal crash in 2018 at Pikel’s Top Tier Fuels. Police say Brown was behind the wheel of a car that ran over a gas pump and crashed into a building. Both the car and building caught fire and 52-year-old Pikel’s employee Melissa Myers of Commodore died in the fire that came from the crash. Brown admitted to police that he took heroin and smoked marijuana before getting behind the wheel. A jury trial is set for September 21st for charges related to the Pikel’s crash.
Brown was free on $50,000 unsecured bond, but District Attorney Bob Manzi filed a motion to revoke the bond on May 29th.
