State police have released more information on the two suspects arrested yesterday after a chase in White Township.
19-year-old Spencer Hayes, and 20-year-old Frank Williams IV, both from Philadelphia, were identified in court documents as the two that were taken into custody yesterday. The two were arraigned last night in front of District Judge Chris Welch. Hayes is charged with felony receiving stolen property, misdemeanor resisting arrest and fleeing or attempting to elude police, and seven summary traffic offenses. Williams is charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and a summary offense.
The incident began at about 11 AM when Indiana Borough Police notified state police that a vehicle involved in a criminal investigation had run a stop sign on Gorman Avenue at East Pike Road. A state trooper spotted the vehicle traveling along South 3rd Street near Grandview Avenue, and when he pulled it over and walked toward the car, Hayes hit the gas and fled. As the trooper pursued, Hayes turned onto Carter Avenue, which is a dead end. The state trooper knew that. Hayes did not. He crashed into two trees and the two suspects fled into the woods. They were later seen crossing Grandview on foot and fleeing into the woods again. A perimeter was set up with Indiana Borough Police assisting, and the suspects were soon taken into custody.
State police said at the time that the two were in a 2014 grey Nissan Altima, but further investigation revealed that the license plate was an unauthorized plate. When they ran the vehicle’s VIN number in the database, they found that it was actually a model year 2010 grey Altima that was reported stolen from Delaware County. That matches the details released on a vehicle that was found by Indiana Borough Police in connection with the drive-by shooting on Tuesday. State Police Public Information Officer Cliff Greenfield said they could not say if it is the same vehicle used in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday in Indiana Borough, but they are continuing to investigate.
Judge Welch ordered both Hayes and Williams to be held at the Indiana County Jail on $50,000 bond. They are scheduled for preliminary hearings on July 6th.
