State Representative Daryl Metcalfe on Tuesday introduced a resolution that calls for the impeachment of Governor Tom Wolf.
The resolution submitted by the Butler County Republican said that Governor Wolf’s actions during the Coronavirus pandemic crippled the state economy and they also say he regularly exceeded his authority with some of his orders. In the five articles of the resolution, Metcalfe said that while Wolf had the legislative authority to declare a disaster emergency related to the Covid-19 outbreak, he did not have the authority to issue stay-at-home orders and close all businesses that were not “life-sustaining”. Metcalfe’s other articles of impeachment concern the waiver program that he said lead to “inconsistent and unjust results”, the closures causing high unemployment rates and Wolf failing to notify the Department of Labor and Industry of the need to appropriately staff offices, the high number of Covid-19-related deaths in nursing and long-term care homes, and withholding critical information from the public and the press during the Covid-19 outbreak concerning the waiver program.
State representative Jim Struzzi said he has received the articles and is reviewing them thoroughly before he makes any decision.
Indiana County representatives Jeff Pyle and Cris Dush are co-sponsors on the resolution. Impeachment requires a simple majority vote from the state house to move to a trial in the senate where two-thirds of senators would have to vote in favor of removing Wolf from office.
