Penguins winger Conor Sheary sat down yesterday to take questions from the media as he and his teammates continue their voluntary workouts in the hope of restarting the NHL season.
Sheary says the return to Pittsburgh to skate with his teammates has been very helpful.
Asked to describe the workouts, he said captain Sidney Crosby helped lead them last week when there were no coaches allowed, but they’ve gotten more guidance this week.
Sheary was re-acquired by the Pens from Buffalo at the trading deadline, in part to help replace injured teammate Jake Guentzel. With the layoff, Guentzel may be ready to return when play resumes, and Sheary says he would enjoy a reunion with his former linemate.
Sheary says he has no health concerns with returning to play.
Penguins 2019 first-round draft choice Sam Poulin has been chosen as one of 41 players to participate in a summer development camp next month with Canada’s national junior team. The 19-year-old forward played this season with Sherbrooke in the Quebec Major Junior League, where he was the team captain, and he scored 32 goals with 43 assists. The junior team camp will be held virtually. The World Junior Championship will be held in Canada in December.
