At Tuesday night’s virtual meeting, the Indiana Borough Council approved changes to the borough’s animal code.
The changes add sections concerning chickens and neighborhood and feral cats that can be trapped, neutered and returned to where they were caught. Board member Kaycee Newell did have a concern about animals who develop diseases that could be harmful to humans. She said that an amendment should be made that would require the owner of the animal to notify the borough. While it was not added last night, the issue could be revisited in the future.
Also passing last night was a resolution to amend the borough’s open container ordinance. It would allow restaurants and bars that serve alcohol to expand seating to the sidewalk, provided there is still a five foot path for people to walk. Bars and restaurants that don’t serve alcohol can apply for a similar expansion. Also changed was the hours of alcohol service. Under the temporary change, restaurants can serve alcohol outdoors from 11 AM to 11 PM Sunday through Wednesday and 11 AM to midnight Thursday through Saturday. Newell explains why the expansion was necessary.
The board was also reminded of two public hearings for CDBG-Coronavirus money that the borough would receive. Those hearings are set for June 18th at 6 PM for borough residents and June 23rd at 2 PM for businesses. Both hearings will be held via Zoom chat.
