The United Way of Indiana County has announced the award of $104,119 to six social service agencies through the federal CARES Act. The funds are administered by the Department of Homeland Security and their distribution comes through the United Way’s Local Advisory Board for the federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program. The agencies receiving the assistance are:
- The Alice Paul House, for the purchase of small appliances in each room of its new domestic violence safe shelter.
- The Blairsville-Saltsburg School District, to supplement its summer meal program.
- The Chevy Chase Community Center, to help provide 10,000 meals for adults and seniors over a nine-month period.
- ICCAP, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and the Salvation Army, for their programs to support rent and utility assistance for those in crisis.
Jane Lockard-Clawson, the United Way’s Executive Director, says they have seen an increase in need due to Covid-19. The United Way’s Emergency Food and Shelter program distributes funds once per year, as they become available.
