Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl has written a “Chief’s Message to Our Community” addressing the death of George Floyd in Minnesota, calling it “horrible” and “unacceptable”. He writes that “The anger and sadness that everyone feels is well placed.”
Schawl also relates that the Indiana Borough Police Department has been working with Cultural Anthropologist Dr. Abigail Adams on internal discussions of cultural competencies, inclusion, social justice, and diversity since 2018. He writes that he is committed to using both traditional and non-traditional methods to “build a high character, highly skilled, and compassionate police department that is representative of our community.”

It makes us proud that the police chief has taken such a positive and intelligent position, and announced it publically. Indiana is fortunate to have Chief Shawl in charge.
Thanks Chief!
