The State House yesterday passed and sent to the governor a Senate bill that allocates $2.6 billion in federal CARES Act to help those struggling through the Covid-19 pandemic. In a joint release, Representative Jim Struzzi and Senator Joe Pittman say Indiana County will receive $7,592,536 in relief funds.
While the specific local allocations are not detailed in the release, some of the state figures include $632 million for nursing homes, $225 million for a Statewide Small Business Assistance Program, the previously-announced $50 million for volunteer fire companies and EMS providers, and $20 million for food assistance programs.
Struzzi says the funds will provide “much-needed relief, and hopefully some peace of mind” for people affected by the pandemic, while Pittman points specifically to helping “the struggling healthcare system of Indiana County.”
