White Township Supervisors met Wednesday night and had further discussions concerning the proposed invasive plant species removal and timbering project in White’s Woods.
Last week the group Friends of White’s Woods filed a lawsuit against the township in an effort to stop the project. Discussion on the matter focused on whether the tilling the ground and opening the overhead canopy of trees is the proper technique to remove the barberry bushes to how the process will move forward in government. Township Manager Milt Lady talked about that process, saying every step must be approved by the supervisors.
No motions were made last night concerning the project.
Later in the meeting the board discussed the adoption of the township’s stewardship plan. The plan, which sets standards for the upkeep of township properties like White’s Woods, the Township Rec Complex and other places, was submitted to the DCNR forester but had not been returned yet. The board tabled accepting the plan until they receive it from the forester and have a chance to look over his recommendations. Supervisor Gail McCauley said it would ease any confusion over the plan.
In other business the board approved a plan from township manager Milt Lady that if the county would go to green status next week, the township offices would reopen to the public the following Monday.
