At Wednesday night’s Southwestern PA Commission Transportation Improvement Program Virtual meeting, it was announced that in 2021 draft TIP, base funding for Highway and Bridge Projects would see a drop of 20%, nearly where it was before Act 89 Transportation Plan was signed into law in 2013.
Andy Waple, the Transportation Planning Director for the Southwestern PA Commission said the drop was due to a shift in priority for those funds that would move that money towards the interstates.
High priority projects that plan to be included in the next TIP for Indiana County include:
- Route 286
- 422 interchange east improvements
- Bridge replacements on Philadelphia Street
- Route 119 preservation from Marshall Road to the Jefferson County Line
- Bridge preservation over Twolick Creek
- Bridge reconstruction over Stoney Run
- Hoodlebug Trail improvements in the Mile Hill section
- Improvements to the Indian Springs Road/Rustic Lodge Intersection
- Several sidewalks around Eisenhower elementary school
Josh Krug of the Indiana County Office of Planning and Development said these projects will be in various stages over the next three years.
