At Wednesday’s Indiana County Commissioners meeting, the issue of voting during the Covid-19 pandemic came up for discussion.
In public comment, questions were asked about changes in polling places, if the county needed more vote counters, and any plans on training poll workers to sanitize the polling area. While a polling site change for Indiana 3/1 from Pratt Hall to Zink Hall on IUP’s campus was approved, an entire list of polling place changes will be place on the county’s website on May 23rd. Indiana County Chief Clerk Robin Marayi said that they are taking some precautions at the polling locations to make sure that everyone remains safe.
In other business, commissioners approved a tax resolution concerning this year’s property taxes, which waives all penalties on this year’s taxes, provided they are paid by December 31st of this year. This would not include per capita tax, which would be held at penalty.
The commissioners also approved a grant application for the office of planning and development of $4,115,000 which will be used for the WCCC expansion-Allegheny Challenger Learning Center site at the ICTC Campus. Commissioners also approved a transfer of the county’s older EMA mobile command center to Cambria County for their use. If Indiana County would need the mobile command center back for any reason, Cambria County would be able to provide it through a mutual aid agreement.
