Shirley A. Schreckengost, 81, Indiana, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 at her residence.
The daughter of William and Ruth (Renz) Hopkins, she was born July 9, 1938 in Indiana, PA.
As the first female deputy sheriff, Shirley served Indiana County for 22 years. She was a former president of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Shirley enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, crafts, the beach, reading, and crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren and her loving dogs, Pipper, Precious and Mitzy.
Ken and Shirley shared a wonderful life together for the last 64 years, traveling, camping and enjoying life to its fullest with all their friends and family along the way.
Our family would like to thank the VNA Hospice program for all their loving care and compassion they showed our mother and our family.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Kenneth Schreckengost; children, Kenneth (Jackie) Schreckengost, Jr., Robert Schreckengost, and Connie Bence; grandchildren, Robert Schreckengost, Jr., Heather (Rick) Schreckengost-Rotosky, Mitchell Timblin, Tyler Schreckengost, Matthew Schreckengost, Sarah Bence and Matthew Bence; great-grandchildren, Nathan Rotosky, Madison Bence, Brooklyn Bence and Aurora Timblin,; sister, Eileen Gearhart; and a brother, William (Stephanie) Hopkins.
Preceding Shirley in death were her parents and her great granddaughter Lilly Rotosky.
Funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home.
