State police have filed a report on a crash last Thursday afternoon just east of West Shamokin High School, on Route 85 at Jersey Lane in Cowanshannock Township, Armstrong County. A Creekside man was injured and police say they had to administer Naloxone to him twice in order to revive him.
56-year-old Vernon Atherton had to be extricated from his vehicle by firefighters using a Jaws of Life tool. His vehicle had crossed over from the eastbound lane, leaving the highway and shearing off a utility pole.
Atherton was taken to Forbes Regional Medical Center in Monroeville with unknown injuries. Charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance are pending. He already faces a preliminary hearing in Armstrong County for a March case in which he’s charged with possession of a controlled substance and of drug paraphernalia.
