IUP has announced that commencement ceremonies for students graduating this semester will be held in mid-September.
According to an announcement from the university, the ceremonies have been scheduled for September 12th and 13th. Commencement exercises will be held on the 12th, with two undergraduate ceremonies, divided by colleges at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM, and a ceremony for graduate students at 5:00 PM. If ceremonies need to be further divided to limit the number of attendees due to restrictions from the Covid-19 Pandemic, ceremonies will be held on Sunday. No college or departmental ceremonies or other recognition events that typically happen during spring graduation are being planned for the weekend. A finalized schedule is expected to be released in two weeks. If the ceremonies need postponed again, they will be rescheduled for December.
IUP had offered graduating students a choice between holding a separate graduation ceremony or to wait to December to be included in the Fall 2020 graduation, and those who responded indicated clearly they wanted the September option.
IUP’s marketing and communications division is working on a video to honor the May and August graduates that will air the week of finals, which will include video messages from members of the IUP community.
