At the Indiana County Commissioners virtual meeting on Wednesday the Commissioners approved an application for a reimbursement program through the federal Department of Justice.
The commissioners are applying for reimbursement of up to $58,008 through the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program. The money can be used for any extraordinary costs connected with the Coronavirus pandemic. Byron Stauffer with the County’s Office of Planning and Development said that not only is the county eligible for this program, but so is Indiana Borough.
In other business, the commissioners approved applying for a $1.5 million grant program from the Appalachian Regional Commission POWER initiative. The commissioners hope to use money from that program to expand high-speed internet access to rural and undeserved areas of the county. It will require a $500,000 match by the county.
