Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced today that he is extending the state’s stay-at-home order to May 8, which he referred to as a “target date,” as well as rolling out plans to start to gradually reopen the state’s economy.
Wolf laid out his first steps to reopen the economy while joining other northeast states that have already extended their stay-at-home orders. Wolf said state officials are taking “small steps toward regaining a degree of normalcy in Pennsylvania.” Pennsylvania’s order was scheduled to expire April 30.
Restrictions in the areas hardest-hit by the virus, including the Philadelphia region, will remain longer than in rural areas, the governor said.
Wolf said curbside pickup now available at 176 of the state’s liquor stores will serve as a test as to whether other closed businesses may be able to do the same without increased transmission of COVID-19.
Wolf said that without widespread testing and a ready vaccine or a cure, activities would remain limited and many precautions would stay in place.
