IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll recounted some of the positive things that are coming out of the university during this Covid-19 pandemic.
In a letter published on the university’s website, Driscoll mentioned that he is continuing to see efforts from many different areas of the IUP community to remain student-centered, and how students are responding to those efforts. One area mentioned was the Emergency Response fund, where students, staffers, faculty and alumni donated money to bring the fund’s total to over $173,000. The money goes to help students in financial distress caused by the pandemic. Driscoll added that others have made donations to the Food Pantry and Help Center.
It was also mentioned that like the classes, research appreciation week is continuing in a virtual format. The week was called essential for students in order to gain experience in presenting their scholarship and original research. In fact, they recently held their three-minute thesis competition via Zoom video chat, and the winner, Brian Sateriale, donated his $500 prize to the Emergency Response fund.
Driscoll also said that campus orientation will continue in an online format, and plans include an expanded Welcome Week for new students and their families.
