State police say an Indiana man and woman are under investigation after a psilocybin mushroom growing operation was discovered yesterday in their apartment at 917 Water Street.
State troopers working with the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Clandestine Laboratory Response Team served a search warrant on the apartment at about 11 o’clock yesterday morning after they received information about the mushroom growing operation. They found an active operation and seized a large quantity of mature mushrooms harvested for sale, a large amount in various states of growth, and various items of drug paraphernalia.
The suspects are a 39-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman whose names were not released. A juvenile lives at the home, so Indiana County Children and Youth Services was brought in to assist.
Psilocybin is a hallucinogenic chemical produced by certain types of fresh and dried mushrooms. It can cause hallucinations and taken in large amounts can cause panic attacks and psychosis. An overdose can result in death.
Charges against the couple are pending the results of lab tests.
