The Indiana School Board met Monday night and discussed not only some of the current impact the Covid-19 pandemic is making on the district, but impact that the pandemic may have on the next school year.
During the meeting, the board approved suspending some of the regulations related to graduating students, including suspending the graduation requirements, final exams, and other changes. This was done to make sure the seniors graduate on time. The board also approved a motion concerning grades for the next quarter. In an effort to make things more flexible for students, there will not be a percent or letter grade associated with the work. Superintendent Vukovich said that there is some expectation, though, to get the work done.
He added that the third grading period was extended by a week to give time for students to turn in assignments and for teachers to grade them.
Vukovich also said that because of the stay-at-home order, he is concerned about a deeper “summer slide” for students before they head back to school, and it’s something he would like to see the appropriate committees discuss.
In other business, the board approved VanMark Services for the HVAC contract for the East Pike Entrance Project. In the first round of bids, they submitted the low bid of $247,788.
