Pennsylvanians who are unemployed will receive $600 in extra unemployment benefits starting next week.
Governor Wolf on Friday announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry is implementing new federal unemployment compensation benefits through the CARES act. This provides the extra $600 per week, and it also makes self-employed, independent contractors and gig workers eligible for benefits and will extend unemployment compensation benefits for 13 weeks. The $600 a week is on top of any other unemployment benefits that the state would already hand out.
The program will run through July 25th, and the first round of payments was issued by the Department of Labor and Industry on Friday.
