The state Supreme Court on Friday closed all of the courts in Pennsylvania to all but the most serious or emergency court cases. That means delays in court proceedings, including what would have been a very busy schedule today.
Justin Libengood’s trial was to have begun today. He’s the 30-year-old Latrobe man involved in a shooting last July at the Day’s Inn in Burrell Township. Police say Libengood pulled a gun and tried to rob David Lee McGinnis of Bolivar inside a hotel room. The two fought and a shot was fired, with McGinnis suffering a wound to the back of his neck. Libengood is charged with aggravated assault, prohibited possession of a firearm, attempted robbery, and criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure.
Also on the schedule today were five jury trials for 44-year-old James Higgins of Josephine. In total, he faces six charges of retail theft and one of recklessly endangering another person.
45-year-old Jacqueline Lane of Dubois was scheduled for trial for retail theft and resisting arrest.
36-year-old Nathan Abrams of Cherry Tree was to face trial for possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct (fighting).
39-year-old Jason McHenry of Apollo was to stand trial for theft of services.
69-year-old Rudolph Vrbanic of Creekside was scheduled for a jury trial today for simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct (fighting), and he is also scheduled for Plea Court. He’s free on unsecured bond, so that probably will not happen, either.
36-year-old Kenneth Ashley Jr. of Bellefonte was scheduled for Plea Court for defiant trespass, and 44-year-old Trisha Hayes of Muncy, Lycoming County, was scheduled for Plea Court for prohibited possession of a firearm, three counts of possession with intent to deliver, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
