UPDATE: The Indiana School District has announced they will also have an Act 80 In-Service Day on Monday, March 16th in order to give teachers time to prepare in case of a long-term closure.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED:
Indiana County’s public school community is taking a cautious approach to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Most say they are monitoring developments and will make decisions as the situation changes, for better or worse. They all say as well that they are being vigilant in cleaning and disinfecting practices.
Although it’s certain that all of the school districts are planning for the possibility that they will not be able to hold school, only two have said so publicly.
Homer Center writes on its website that “Plans are being developed in the event that education needs to be delivered to our students in alternative methods.”
Marion Center will hold an in-service day for teachers on Monday, and when students return on Tuesday, they will be given standby packets of take-home assignments and information in case the district would be instructed to close for an extended period of time on short notice.
ARIN Intermediate Unit has not announced any specific measures to address Covid-19. They have postponed Monday’s scheduled screening of the movie Intelligent Lives at IUP, and will work with the university and the Local Task Force on the Right to Education on a reschedule date.
