In conjunction with the announcement from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Friday morning, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) announced that all spring athletic competitions after March 15 have been cancelled.
Any non-conference competitions by PSAC teams in which they have already traveled to are will be left to institutional discretion through March 15.
All countable related athletic activities (CARA) – which include team practices, conditioning and lifting, etc. – are suspended until March 30 when the PSAC Board of Directors review a proposal from athletic administration regarding the remainder of the semester.
IUP spring sports currently traveling are softball, women’s tennis and men’s golf. Softball will finish out its spring break trip to Florida this weekend while women’s tennis has one final match Friday. Men’s golf canceled the Brown Golf Intercollegiate it planned to host in Jackson Springs, N.C. this weekend.
In addition to the three mentioned above, IUP spring sports impacted by this decision include baseball, men’s and women’s track & field, and women’s lacrosse.
Effective immediately, the IUP Athletic Department has shut down the Memorial Field House until March 30 when the situation will be re-evaluated. Facilities closed include the main and auxiliary gyms, weight room, athletic training room and pool.
The PSAC decision follows the announcement made Thursday by NCAA President Mark Emmert to cancel all remaining NCAA winter and spring championships. This impacted the IUP men’s and women’s basketball teams, women’s swimming and men’s track & field. This included the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships that were being held at IUP’s Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex this weekend.

In light of the latest news regarding COVID-19, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has announced that all athletic competition for the remainder of the Spring Semester is suspended, effective immediately.
Any non-conference competitions already travelled to are left to institutional discretion through March 15, at which time all athletic competition must cease.
In addition, all countable related athletic activities (CARA) are suspended until March 30 at which time the Board of Directors will review a proposal from the Athletics Administrators to permit or suspend CARA for the remainder of the semester.
