The IUP men’s basketball team won their 11th PSAC championship Sunday afternoon at Shippensburg, beating the Raiders, 77-59.
It is the fifth title under Coach Joe Lombardi in 14 seasons.
Shawndale Jones came off the bench to lead the way, scoring 24 points in 35 minutes of play. Jones went 10 for 14 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds to take the Tournament MVP honors.
Armoni Foster added 17 points, Malik Miller 16, while Ethan Porterfield pulled down 12 rebounds.
The men will play host to the Atlantic Region tournament at the KCAC beginning Friday, with the semifinals to be held Saturday and the championship game Tuesday, March 17th.
The Crimson Hawks will take on Winston Salem State, the No. 8 seed, with the winner playing the winner of the No. 4 Shippensburg versus No. 5 Fairmont State game.
The tournament has split locations, with West Liberty, the No. 2 team, against No. 7 Virginia State and No. 3 Charleston against No. 6 Mercyhurst at West Liberty State.
The IUP women will also play host despite a loss to Gannon University on Sunday.
The Crimson Hawks will play No. 8 seed Fayetteville State of North Carolina, with the winner taking on No. 4 Bowie State or No. 5 Virginia Union.
Gannon will play host in Erie versus No. 7 California University, with No. 3 Glenville State meeting No. 6 Notre Dame of Ohio.
This is the 14th berth for the IUP women, with 11 coming under coach Tom McConnell.
