Four brush fires struck the area yesterday, bringing to six the total number of brush fires in Indiana County since the start of the month. Since February 23rd, Indiana County firefighters have fought thirteen brush fires.
Yesterday’s first fire was reported at 1:38 PM, with Blairsville and Black Lick firefighters summoned into Westmoreland County to Livermore Road in Derry Township. Tunnelton firefighters were dispatched soon after, and Homer City was placed on standby.
At 3:06 PM, Glen Campbell firefighters were sent to a brush fire along Peles Road in Montgomery Township. Cherry Tree and Burnside soon joined them.
Creekside and Marion Center firefighters were dispatched at 4:09 PM to a brush fire along Groft Road in Rayne Township.
Clyde firefighters were sent to a brush fire along Route 259 in West Wheatfield Township at 5:40 PM.
