State police have released their report on Thursday evening’s fatal pedestrian accident in the Resort Plaza shopping center in Burrell Township.
It happened shortly after 6:30 PM when police say a 71-year-old Blairsville man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee pulled out from a parking stall and attempted a U-turn into the traffic lane, but struck 78-year-old Darlene Shaffer of Blairsville, who had just exited the Rite-Aid store and was walking to her vehicle. Shaffer was pinned beneath the vehicle and had to be extricated by Black Lick and Blairsville firefighters. Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. pronounced her dead at the scene at 6:48 PM. The cause and manner of death are still pending.
The name of the Jeep driver has not been released.
The State Police Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Specialist and the Forensic Services Unit assisted at the scene.
