Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went up slightly in the month of January.
According to the state department of Labor and Industry, the statewide unemployment rate went up one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.7%. Last year at that time, the unemployment rate was at 4.1%.
The state’s civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, went up by 11,000 in January to a record high of 6,549,000 due to gains in employment and unemployment. The total number of non-farm jobs went up by 13,500 from December to 6,093,000. Jobs went up in seven of the 11 industry super sectors, with the construction super sector seeing the largest increase.
The county’s unemployment rate for the month of January will be released later this month.
