The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission yesterday awarded almost $2 million in grants to 153 museums and county historical societies in 58 of the state’s 67 counties.
The funds include $4,000 for the Historical & Genealogical Society of Indiana County.
The grants are for museums and official county historical societies with an annual budget of more than $100,000 and at least one full-time professional staffer. The maximum any museum could receive is $40,000. All official county historical societies receive a $4,000 minimum grant.
The historical societies in Armstrong, Cambria, Clearfield, and Jefferson counties also got $4,000 awards. Westmoreland’s received $4,463. Other grants awarded to area institutions include $4,000 to the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center and $4,000 to the Ligonier Valley Historical Society.
