Indiana County had 67 new lab-confirmed flu cases last week, after adding 57 to its total the week before. The new totals from across the region run counter to the statewide trend. While the pace of flu cases continues to escalate in Indiana County and its five neighbors, the State Health Department reports that the pace is slowing across the commonwealth and flu season may finally have reached its peak.
In Indiana County, there have been 720 confirmed flu cases. 464 of them have been Type B. 256 have been Type A.
Among the neighboring counties, Armstrong added 62 new flu cases, and stands at 523 for the season. Cambria County had another 150 cases last week, for a season-long total of 1,537. Clearfield County is at 910 for the season, an increase of 127 in the last week. In Jefferson County, there have been 542 flu cases, with an increase of 56 in the last week. Westmoreland County increased by 290 cases, to 3,187.
Eight more people died from flu-related illness in Pennsylvania last week, bringing the season-long total to 74.
