Nine games into the spring training schedule, the Pittsburgh Pirates finally recorded a win with a 2-0 shutout of the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. The Pirates entered the game 0-7-1 this spring.
The Pirates used starter Derek Holland and eight relievers to blank the Twins on five hits. Dovydas Neverauskas, the third reliever, was awarded the win and Montana DuRapau took the mound last to pick up the save.
José Osuna and Kevin Kramer accounted for the two runs. Osuna knocked in Ke’Bryan Hayes with a double in the sixth inning. Kramer smacked a single to drive in Will Craig for the second run in the ninth inning.
Here’s the recap from Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton, a former bench coach for the Twins, made his return to Hammond Stadium for the first time.
The Pirates take on the Toronto Blue Jays today, airtime 1 p.m. on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM.
