The PIAA released state playoff basketball pairings, with venues and tipoff times, on Sunday, with five Heritage Conference teams and Indiana playing next weekend.
Starting with 3A, the United Lions girls (20-6), the fourth seed out of District 6, will take on WPIAL champion Mohawk (22-3) Friday at New Castle High School, tipoff at 7:30, and the Ligonier Valley boys (23-3), the runners-up in District 6 3A, will battle Carlynton (15-9), the WPIAL No. 5 seed, at Greater Johnstown HIgh School on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
In 2A, the District 6 runner-up Penns Manor girls (23-3) will take on WPIAL fourth seed Serra Catholic (17-4) on Friday at Central Cambria, with a 6 p.m. tipoff. The Homer-Center boys, third seed from District 6, will travel to the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center on Saturday to battle District 5 champion North Star (22-3). That game tips off at 2:30.
The Saltsburg boys represent the only 1A team in states from the Heritage. The Trojans (13-11), third seed out of District 6, travel to Fox Chapel High School to play Cornell (18-7), the WPIAL runner-up. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
Indiana (14-10) will take on Lancaster Catholic (25-3), the District 3 champion, in the opening round of the WPIAL 4A girls’ playoffs on Saturday. The tipoff will be 2:30 p.m. at Warwick High School in Lititz.
