Silas William (Bill) Beatty, 73, of Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at his home.
Born in 1946 in Indiana, he was the son of the late Silas Renwick Beatty and Georgeann Smith Beatty.
A Vietnam veteran, Bill served in the Navy from 1964-1967 on the U.S. O’Bannon. Upon discharge, Bill worked as a pressman at the Indiana Gazette for 22 years and then retired as head pressman from the Freelance Star newspaper in Fredericksburg, Virginia after 15 years of service.
Bill showed his support to his fellow veterans with his lifetime membership with the Indiana VFW and American Legion. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Indiana.
Bill kept active by cutting and splitting firewood. He loved listening to music while he worked in his garage and being on the open road on his trike.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judy (Kessler) Beatty of 55 years; daughters – Terri Beatty; Tammy Beatty and partner Vince Rylke; sisters- Karen (Beatty) Holiday and husband Jerry; Barbara Beatty; and brother Gary Beatty of Wilkinsburg, PA; along with many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will begin at 8 p.m. with Chaplain Lori Parks officiating. Interment will be private.
