Joan Shearer age 88 of Homer City, (Brush Valley), went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at her home after an extended battle with cancer.
She was born in 1931 in Johnstown to Bert and Hazel Wilson Overdorff.
Mrs. Shearer was an active member of the Graystone Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Indiana, where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and part of the PEP Group.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, camping, Modern Western Square Dancing and family activities.
Joan is survived by her husband of 69 years, Glenn W. Shearer, Brush Valley; one son and two daughters – Daniel G. Shearer and wife Susan, Pittsburgh; Valerie J. Mueller and husband Bill, Butler; Margie K. Bucci and husband Greg, Blairsville; nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister – Brian Overdorff, Keene, NH; Patricia Baker and husband William, Northfield, MA; Donald Overdorff and wife Theresa, Tunkhannock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Jane Shannon, brother Gerald Overdorff, and great-grandson Dylan Syers.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday. February 29, 2020, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Graystone Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Indiana, where a Celebration of her life will begin at 10 a.m. with the Rev Joe Stroup officiating. Private interment will be made in the Bethel UP Cemetery, New Florence.
