The Minnesota Twins plated two runs in the third inning for a 2-1 victory over the Pirates on Saturday afternoon in the Grapefruit League opener at LECOM Park. It was Derek Shelton’s debut as Pirates manager.
The Pirates recorded their first hit in the fifth inning with a single by Cole Tucker. They scored in the seventh when Jason Delay drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on Ke’Bryan Hayes’ double off the right-field wall and scored on Andrew Susac’s infield grounder. Hayes was thrown out at the plate trying to score the tying run.
The Pirates play the Phillies today on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM, airtime 1 p.m.
