At a recent State Senate budget hearing, the State System of Higher Education chancellor said that PASSHE has taken steps to manage personnel costs as enrollment continues to decline at the 14 state-owned schools.
Chancellor Dan Greenstein said that they are trying to do this in a way that will minimize disruption to students, respects faculty and gets the system to financial stability quickly. Greenstein added that PASSHE introduced an enhanced sick leave payout plan for faculty to boost the annual number of retirees to at least 200, and that the board of governors has approved a sustainability policy requiring universities to maintain sustainable balanced budgets.
Budget hearings are expected to continue through next week, with a state budget due at the end of June.
